PREPARATION
Preparation is very important first step of the interview process. If you’ve prepared well, you should remain calmer and be more confident during the actual interview. Your preparation will positively show the interviewer you’re serious and capable of successfully fulfilling the job requirements listed.
Tips:
- Leave Early!! If your even one minute late to an interview, the position will not be offered to you.
- Try to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for an interview because most employers have paperwork you’ll have to fill out beforehand.
- Research the company and job description extensively before the day of the interview.
- Dress your best and organize your clothing, pens, references and your resume the night before.
- Know exactly where the location of the company/organization is located the day before the interview.
- Get plenty of sleep the night before the interview!
THE INTERVIEW
If you have taken the necessary steps we’ve listed above, you should arrive at the interview feeling you’re the best person for the position and confident knowing you’ve successfully prepared well.
Tips:
- When you’re introduced to the interviewer, shake his/her hand securely and with an enthusiastic smile.
- Take the initiative to speak before the actual interview begins. This is critically important for two reasons! First, it eases the stress and tension and will make you feel much more comfortable throughout the interview. Secondly, employers already know you’re qualified for the position because they’ve granted an interview, but most want to know if you’re a good fit for the company/organization. If they realize during the interview that you’re personable, friendly and a team player, your chances of landing the position will greatly be enhanced.
- Sit back in the chair and try to make yourself comfortable. Many interviewees sit on the very front or tip of the chair which is a sign that you’re nervous and uncomfortable.
- Be prepared to tell stories about your leadership abilities, communication skills, and success and failures while employed at other companies/organization.
- Be assertive and speak clearly and precisely when asked questions.
- When the interview has ended, make sure you shake the hand of the interviewer and again smile enthusiastically. Thank him/her for their time and hopefully you’ll hear from them soon.
GOOD LUCK!!
